Lexington Philharmonic

For those who didn't know, Scott Terrell is now LExington Philharmonic's mew musical director. HOpefully this young, seemingly vibrant conductor will introduce the Lexington audiences to new programming and more innovative music. There's a nice little podcast of him on the Lexphil site.

Programming for next season includes exciting works like Schwantner's 'Percussion Concerto' performed by Evelyn Glennie (I can't wait, I've wanted to see her perform for years) and Corigliano's 'Elegy for Orchestra' (a prominent band music composer).

...and hopefully a lot more music like this

  1. I too am looking forward to the LPO's new season. Terrell seems to be slowly edging away from the basic (dare I say stodgy?) repertoire and expanding the palette a little bit. Besides the Schwantner and Corigliano, there is Arensky's "Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky" and Korngold's "Much Ado About Nothing Suite", two composers I'd never thought I'd see on a concert program, much less in Lexington, KY.

My favorite part, though, has to be the asterisks denoting the two living composers on the program: Schwantner and Robert Beaser. Otherwise, apparently, no one would know they weren't dead. Or that they were worth listening to!

  2. It's going to be fantastic!!! They should have graduate students present the pre-concert sessions, put a whole new spin on things.
