"American" Music Recital

Hi all -- I received this invitation via Facebook today; and given the American Music focus, I thought it would be appropriate to copy/paste [and reconfigure a bit!] and share with all of you. I wonder what their working definition of "American" is....

American Music Recital - "America!"
Host: Phi Mu Alpha - Sinfonia
Date: Thursday, April 16, 2009
Time: 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Location: Room 22 (Band Room), Fine Arts Building, University of Kentucky
Description: The Brothers of Phi Mu Alpha - Sinfonia are pleased to host the FIRST ANNUAL American Music Recital, and we want YOU to be a part of it!
Who: Any student in the UK School of Music who is interested in performing on a recital. Any instrument/voice: winds, brass, percussion, strings, vocalists, etc. Any genre: neo-classical, contemporary, impressionist, atonal, avant-garde, electronic, minimalist, jazz, rock, aleatoric, etc.
What: The only requirements are that the piece is either written by an American composer, or is otherwise considered American music. Please try to keep music no longer than 5-7 minutes per performance (talk to me if you need an exception).
Why: This is a great opportunity to get a run through of an upcoming jury piece, perform a solo piece or chamber work, or just a chance to share with an audience a new piece, or a seldom performed work from your specific area of interest.

NO REGISTRATION FEE! NO ADMISSION CHARGE! FREE FREE FREE!!!

  1. Sounds cool, but Chris Little's recital at 7:30 in Niles that night will definitely be even cooler.
